Health and Beauty
Beginning an adult career and lifestyle after college was a fantastic transition involving everything from my first car to deciding how to stock my own refrigerator. It also meant making my own medical and health decisions for the first time. For some reason it was easy to decide to find a primary care doctor have an annual physical, but I put off finding a darlington dentists. I’d been through some rough times in the dental chair as a kid, and figured sitting in another one could wait. Finally, I turned thirty years old and faced an internal, tremendously demanding voice that told me I needed to take care of being a true grown–up. Going to the dentist was on this personality’s hit list, and I began asking around for advice. I made an appointment with a nearby practice, and found myself confessing to Dr. Gary Starbuck just how many years I had avoided going to the dentist. He asked me about my childhood experiences and told me my fears were reasonable. Then he explained how he used nitrous oxide as well as local anesthesia – we proceeded only once I was at ease. I did have a cavity that needed work, and we went with his “painless procedures”. All went very well, and even after moving 150 miles away I returned to this practice. I came to really enjoy knowing my teeth were healthy as well as that totally clean and sparkling feeling once every six months. I have finally switched to a practice here where I live now, and my enjoyment continues. I can only regret one thing, and that is that most practices no longer use nitrous oxide – it is a wonderful drug and was a key part of my transition into responsible dental health care. Nevertheless, I love having clean, strong, healthy teeth!
