Unexpected New Business Thanks to My LinkedIn Profile

posted on 28 November 2011

I’ve been a member of LinkedIn for 5 years now. I keep an up to date version of my resume there, in combination with information about my recent interests in business. Initially I mainly saw LinkedIn only as a system for keeping my contacts, but lately that has changed. I was mainly adding people I met at work as connections - the creative design agency I met, the programmer who worked with me before, the artist I hired 2 years ago etc - so I had a pretty narrow network. However, over time, as employees come and go, LinkedIn is becoming more important for me. In the past year I have done business with a former colleague, who went on to work for a different company. While this may not sound like much, I do expect that this will happen more frequently in the near future. Apart from that, even the functionality offered by the free version of the platform is quite impressive. So even if I have only had limited business results from LinkedIn so far, I am very happy with it.

Why It Pays to be Responsible Online Users

posted on 5 October 2011

Just recently, crimes that started out in Facebook came out in the news. There was one call center agent who met up with a guy she just met in Facebook. The next day, she was found dead in her own apartment. Another incident involved a man who almost got killed when he was attacked by another man who became his friend and then later on, his lover. He also met the guy in Facebook. Also, there have been rape cases among teenage girls and the suspects were guys who became their boyfriends only through Faceook. Upon hearing all these news, being a mother of two teenage girls, I insisted to manipulate facebook help privacy settings to make sure that my daughters don't expose themselves to people they do not know. I also made it very clear to them that they are not supposed to giving out their address and phone numbers to just about anyone. Knowing that my kids are well informed give me confidence that they will be responsible online users wherever they are.

My Thoughts on the Graffiti in My Home Town

posted on 19 February 2011

In my home town, graffiti is mainly written or painted on trains, old buildings walls, basketball courts etc. I really like much of the graffiti, but I hate to see the nonsense "tags" sprayed on walls and can't believe someone can think that is graffiti or art. I can say that I know some of the best graffiti artists in my city, and their street art is pretty good. I think that graffiti are really cool when they are nicely complied with the background. That's what Banksy does he has brought something new to the art of graffiti. He is not just spraying the graffiti, his art is a combination of stenciling, fine brush painting and spray paint. He adds some realistic details to the subject of painting, so you get a 3D impression of graffiti. Bansky is one of my favorite street artists. He is famous for his public places graffiti art works.
